The Metropolitan Museum of Art - This Week's Featured Photo

Just posted to the museum's Facebook wall: "See this week's featured Flickr photo."

"I thought that I'd mix it up a bit this week and select a photo from way back in the pool. I found this one taken by Michael Cinique in 1987 on page 155 of the group pool.

I love everything about this photo: the moment, the expression on the woman's face, the framing, the square format, but I especially love the light.

It looks as though it was taken at that moment in the evening when the sun bounces off the windows of the buildings across 5th Avenue and shines through the trees onto the plaza in front of the Museum."

Karena

We are sad to hear that Karena Vance passed away last month after a courageous 12 year battle with cancer. Michael and I became friends with Karena when we all worked together at a high-tech startup several years ago. My clearest memories of Karena wasn't about what she said or where we were. Instead, it was Karena's soft voice, her smile, and her peaceful, calming presence.

Although we haven't had much contact in the last several years, we did bump into Karena every so often. Both Michael and I had a suspicion that she might have been sick, but Karena never talked about it so we didn't ask. Despite her illness, she always greeted us with a smile, and a loving hug.

Karena truly impressed us with her quiet, peaceful grace. Our thoughts are with Karena and her family and friends.

Aidan's First Soccer Goal, 2009.

I was the "official" time keeper for my 5 year old son Aidan's soccer games last year. This was mainly due to the fact that I always had my iPhone with me. During the games I would often do some shooting. Just as I took this picture of the sidelines, I heard a lot of shouting and cheering. Aidan scored his first (and only) goal at the exact moment I took this shot! I totally missed seeing his goal but I got a good picture. And yes, his coach saw that I was not paying attention to the game and gave me flack for missing Aidan's goal.

Midlife Crisis, 2008.

This is a photo of a sculpture, taken in downtown Santa Cruz in 2008. I don't shoot a lot of digital, but the medium works for situations like this, when I'm out and about with my family and want to grab a very quick shot.
